Beginning in Kindergarten, all students participate weekly in basic classroom music and art instruction. Here they begin to develop an understanding of music and art fundamentals, different music/art genres and music/art history. This information will then be expanded upon each year, and will also be supportive in their academic classroom education through Core Knowledge.
Starting in 2nd grade, students have the opportunity to get involved in the choir program at JCS: Melody Makers Choir for 2nd & 3rd graders and JoySong Choir for 4th & 5th graders. They learn the basics of singing correctly, harmonizing and are given many performance opportunities.
By the 4th grade, students can also begin in our Band program. We offer not only all traditional band instrumental instruction, but also guitar and drum instruction. The students are also given several performance opportunities throughout the year.
Visual Arts is an important component of the Fine Arts Program at Joy Christian School. Beginning in Kindergarten, students are introduced to Core Knowledge integration with art projects that reflect what is being taught in the classroom. During Arts classes, students are also given many opportunities to get hands-on experiences in creating their own art work. Throughout the year, students can enter their artwork into several city-wide contests.
